Five arrested in La Mirada during major marijuana grow bust
Go to story here
La Mirada- A series of arrests throughout the city in the past week should benefit the ongoing fight on local crime and neighborhood livability issues.
Armed attacker arrested
On Tuesday morning a transient was arrested after a 911 call was received that a man was attacking someone, and he was armed with a knife in the Home Depot parking lot near the shoe repair business.
Witnesses said a couple of men in a nearby business investigating the commotion they were hearing quickly intervened and held the suspect down until deputies arrived and placed him under arrest.
Bystanders expressed appreciation for the quick response by deputies.
(Credit should be given to the 911 team at Norwalk Station too.. They are the people that must quickly and accurately collect as many details as possible in order to arrive quickly at the right place and detain the right individual for further investigation).
Report of armed man results in school lockdown
Several hours after the arrest near the Home Depot, deputies were dispatched to a report of a man armed with a gun pointed it at another man during an argument in the 13200 block of Woodridge Ave shortly before 2 p.m.
According to a witness the armed man went into his home after the confrontation, and the other man left in his vehicle.
Deputies detained the man that was alleged to have had the gun and was released a short time later after they were unable to determine who the other man or if he was a victim.
Classrooms at nearby St. Paul of the Cross were locked down as a precaution and the Sheriff's Department emphasizes students were never in any danger.
Arrests that will impact crime and livability
* Over the past month or so there was a noticeable spike of crime in the industrial south end including a handful of commercial vehicle and cargo trailer thefts and a series of break-ins to RV;s at Camping World.
Arrests of several suspects found later on the Camping World property for trespass were made as well as several more in the same areas this month for possession of a controlled substance. (You can't be a heavy drug user and have a keep your job, so some steal)
Then last night deputies were able to collar a couple of burglars in the act at a large warehouse in the 14700 block of Industry Circle.
***(Updated 10/28 9:38 a.m.) Correction**** La Mirada News has learned that these were arrests were not burglary suspects, and instead, the reported break-in attempt by a witness was in fact, an illegal marijuana grow operation. Five arrests, 1,100 plants were seized. View all the details at this link:
