La Mirada- A sheriff's deputy doing a patrol check of the La Mirada Industrial area early Sunday spotted a caravan of cars driven most associated with street racers and their fans descending on an intersection that was the scene of intersection takeovers earlier this year.
Additional patrol units were requested as an estimated 200 street racers and enthusiasts began arriving at Alondra Blvd and Valley View Ave. at about 12:20 a.m., but were soon became discouraged from attempting any repeat of past incidents by a quick show of force by La Mirada patrol units that were all available on this otherwise quiet weekend night.
Several units were also sent to Trojan Way south of Alondra Blvd to make sure the racers did not drift down to Desman Road which was a favorite spot of illegal street races when side-by-side drag racing was popular in the past.

Within 30 minutes the streets in the area we once again quiet as the racers left north and east for other destinations.
Deputies were busy and shorthanded on the nights of Feb. 16, March 9, and April 20, of 2018 when upwards of 500 people gathered to watch a complete shutdown of the intersection for close to 15 minutes each time at the intersection anchored by a 24-hour AM/PM.
On those three nights deputies arrived to find the intersection in complete and total lawlessness, and being overwhelmed by sheer numbers and short of staff were only able to disperse the lawbreakers instead of conducting any kind of proactive enforcement.
