Preps Football: La Mirada back in CIF Top 10 polling


58-7 rout versus Artesia in league opener lifts Matadores' ranking

La Mirada regained a spot in weekly polling results released by CIF Southern Section this week after last Friday's thrashing of Artesia.

The Matadores' (2-3, 1-0) ranked seventh in Week 4 polling in the Southeast Division ran the score up to 58-0 by half time. Most of the starters sat out the second half.

Norwalk (2-3,0-1) fell from 5th to the 9th ranking this week after a 41-28 loss to Mayfair last weekend.

West Covina held on to the top spot in the division for the second week in a row after a 41-24 win versus Walnut.

Next door rival La Serna (4-1) advanced one slot to 5th after pounding Warren 44-7 last Friday.

La Habra remains ranked 5th in the Southwest Division. Both La Habra and La Serna do not return to action until Friday October 15.

The Matadores' host bottom feeding John Glenn this Friday. The Eagles (0-5, 0-1) will try to rebound from a 63-13 collapse against Bellflower in their last game.

John Glenn will have their work cut out for them against a strong La Mirada offense that was firing on all cylinders last week led by a big performance by quarterback Shane Blood.

Blood who completed 10 of 14 attempts for 223 yards, played only until half time, put Artesia in a hole early on with four consecutive touchdown passes to begin the game.

Blood is averaging 171.6 yards passing per game for a season total of 858.

Max Gama having another strong year, leads the team in rushing at 55.6 yards per game, for a season total of 278 yards.

The Washington State bound Gama also is tops in scoring for the season at 42.

Kickoff against John Glenn at La Mirada High Stadium is Friday, 7:00 p.m.
