Sheriff's Blotter Sept 1- 9, 2010


The following incidents reported to deputies are a sampling of police activity in La Mirada during the indicated time period.

Weds Sept 1
1:45 p.m. A grand theft was reported in the 12000 block of Hartdale Avenue, a Siberian Husky was taken from the backyard of a residence.

Weds Sept 1 2:00 p.m. A residential burglary was reported in the 15100 block of Saranac Drive. A computer and miscellaneous coins were taken.

Weds Sept 1 3:00 p.m. An overnight burglary was reported at the County La Mirada Golf Course at 15501 Alicante Road. Thieves broke into a outer storage building stealing lawn maintenance tools.

Weds Sept 1 5:30 p.m. A vehicle tailgate was reported stolen in the 15100 block of La Barca Drive.

Weds Sept 1 6:00 p.m. A vehicle tailgate was reported stolen in the 15000 block of Neartree Drive.

Weds Sept 1 8:00 p.m. A vehicle tailgate was reported stolen in the 14900 block of Barnwall Street.

Weds Sept 1
10:00 p.m. A vehicle tailgate was reported stolen in the 14900 block of San Ardo Drive.

Thur Sept 2
3:00 a.m. A vehicle theft was reported in the 13500 block of Woodridge Avenue.

Thur Sept 2 5:00 p.m. A burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 15200 block of Granada Drive.

Thur Sept 2
10:00 p.m. A theft from a vehicle was reported in the 14600 block of Los Fuentes Road.

Fri Sept 3 3:30 p.m. Misdemeanor domestic violence was reported in the 14000 block of Lake Glen.

Fri Sept 3 7:15 p.m. A commercial burglary was reported in the 15000 block of Alondra Blvd. A television was taken from a storage area.

Sun Sept 5
6:30 a.m. A vehicle was reported stolen in the 15000 block of Leffingwell Road.

Sun Sept 5
7:20 p.m. Larry Salazar, 50, La Mirada was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance after scuffling with a deputy at Marquardt Street and Ratliffe Street.

Sun Sept 5 8:10 p.m. A vehicle stolen in Buena Park was located unoccupied by deputies in the 14800 block of Imperial Hwy.

Mon Sept 6
12:01 a.m. A vehicle was reported stolen in the 15200 block of Rosecrans Avenue.

Mon Sept 6 11:30 a.m. A vehicle burglary was reported in the 14000 block of Las Puertas Street.

Mon Sept 6 7:00 p.m. A residential burglary was reported in the 16000 block of Grayville Drive.

Tue Sept 7 2:00 a.m. A burglary of a vehicle was reported in the 15000 block of Manecita Drive.

Tue Sept 7 6:15 a.m. A vehicle burglary was reported in nthe 14600 block of San Ardo Drive.

Tue Sept 7
12:35 p.m. A suspect dubbed by the FBI as the 'Balding Bandit' (pictured below) entered the Banco Popular at 12333 La Mirada Blvd handing a teller a note demanding money.

The suspect fled on foot after obtaining the content from the cash drawer.

Surveillance video appears to connect the suspect two a pair of similar robberies In May and July at the La Mirada branch of Chase Bank at 15218 Rosecrans Ave.

A note was also presented to tellers in both Chase Bank robberies.

A Sheriff's Department news release describes the suspect in the Sept 7 robbery as being a Male White, 40 to 50 years old, 5'10" 140 lbs wearing sunglasses, a blue polo shirt, and unknown color shorts.

The FBI lists the suspect as about 5'5".

Weds Sept 8 8:00 a.m. A vehicle burglary reported in the 12200 block of La Mirada Blvd.

Weds Sept 8 7:30 p.m. A vehicle was reported stolen in the 15200 block of Rosecrans Avenue.

Weds Sept 8 11:30 p.m. A vehicle burglary was reported in the 14400 block of Bridgewood Drive

The following incidents were reported in the unincorporated areas adjoining La Mirada:

Fri Sept 3 3:36 p.m. A stolen vehicle was located unoccupied in the 12300 block of Corley Drive.

Tue Sept 7
5:26 a.m. A vehicle was reported stolen in the 11500 block of Tana Ave.

Tue Sept 7 6:00 p.m. An assault was reported at Colima Rd and Leffingwell Rd.

Thu Sept 9
12:49 a.m. An assault was reported in the 15800 block of Landmark Drive.

Thu Sept 9 1:42 p.m. A carjacking was reported in the 15900 block of Ocean Avenue.

  1. Why is La Mirada going down hill with crime. The city was like almost crime free for the las 4-5 years. What is going on at the Sheriff's department that crime is now out of control? Can someone answer these questions? Maybe someone needs to talk to Knabe and get him to react and get some serious help fast...I dont want to see our city go to crap-we were doing so well for the last couple of years.
