Gas prices continue to drop as demand increases
Local gas prices continued a downward trend last week falling another three cents to an average price of $2.99.6 in Los Angeles County for a gallon of regular gasoline according to OPIS, 'Oil Price Information Service'.
Prices have continued to drop locally and across the nation despite increasing demand at the pump.
Demand at local pumps is up 1.9% over the same period a year ago as more motorists took to the road for the extended Labor Day weekend this year versus in 2009.
According to OPIS, the Los Angeles County average price for a gallon of regular grade has fallen close to 16 cents over the past month and is also lower than the same day a year ago when a gallon was $3.11.3.
Just to the south of us in Orange County the average price for regular was even slightly lower at $2.98.7 and nationwide Americans are paying an average $2.67.
On Friday pump prices in La Mirada can be seen ranging from $2.85 at the ARCO station at Valley View Ave and Alondra Blvd up to $3.09 at the Shell station at Imperial Hwy and La Mirada Blvd.
Prices for manufacturer preferred 'Top Tier' gasolines can be found as low as $2.91 at both the Chevron and 76 at Imperial Hwy and Valley View Ave.
Motorists can find prices even a few cents less in nearby La Palma and La Habra.
