La Mirada- Monday started out as a typical quiet morning here in 'Mayberry' until a flurry of urgent and emergency calls sent deputies scrambling to several areas of the city just before noon.
The most serious of the incidents resulted in a boy who appeared to be about middle school age being rushed to a local hospital after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the intersection of First Ave and Imperial Hwy on a skateboard at about 11:42 a.m.
The skateboarder was rushed to the trauma unit at UCI Medical Center in Orange and his condition is not known.
According to several witnesses on social media, the skateboarder was riding in the roadway in a reckless manner just prior to being hit by the motorist who was traveling northbound on 1st ave through the intersection. The motorist remained at the scene.
The accident and investigation resulted in the closure of all lanes of traffic in all directions while investigators compiled evidence and statements from a good number of witnesses that
remained at the scene until help arrived. (La Mirada should be nicknamed the Good Samaritan Capital, which I will touch on in an upcoming article).

Traffic on Imperial Hwy was moving again shortly after 1 p.m.
The avalanche of incidents began at 11:33 a.m. when a call was received Biola University that one of their Campus Safety Officer's had a combative trespasser that was resisting arrest.
The suspect had to be lit up with the taser before not so voluntary compliance was offered according to the Biola Chimes news website.

The man had been arrested two weeks earlier for trespassing.
The suspect was taken into custody by deputies upon their arrival.
Biola has experienced a spike in theft by outsiders in recent months, including a rash of bicycle thefts, and a golf cart in late October. Two were arrested at a later date for stealing the golf cart.
Four minutes after the Biola call came in, another urgent call at 11:37 a.m.came from the 14800 block of Springford Drive, regarding a domestic dispute involving a drunk man throwing things. Minutes later 911 dispatchers received information that the man now was getting physical with others in the house and arming himself with a knife. He was arrested without further incident.
Fortunately, with the help from a patrol unit assigned to South and East Whittier patrols helping out the otherwise lone La Mirada deputy on Springford, the always sharp dispatch crew, and a little bit of hustle, everything was handled efficiently and in a timely manner.
