La Mirada neighborhood lockdown leads to arrest

La Mirada - An alleged gang member was arrested Sunday morning in La Mirada shortly after allegedly pointing a handgun at rivals during a South Whittier confrontation.

At about 8 a.m. deputies responded to a report that a person in a white Lexus occupied by two other people pointed a gun during a gang-related confrontation in the 13900 block of Close Street.  No shots were fired..

At about 8:45 a.m. a La Mirada deputy following up on information provided by the victim found the Lexus parked at a home in the 13700 block of Valley View Ave.

Deputies quickly locked down the area after only two of the three persons in the car emerged from the home told deputies the other person in the car fled behind the home as deputies gathered at the front.

The search for the third person ended about 90 minutes later when the man second no longer was wanted after the victim identified the woman already detained as the person who pointed the gun.

Justina Yanez, 29, of La Mirada was booked on a felony charge of assault with a firearm and is being held at the Norwalk Station jail on $50,000 bail. 

Yanez is scheduled to make her first appearance in court Tuesday at Downey Court.

Deputies recovered a handgun from the vehicle.
