Serious crime up in La Mirada for second straight year

LA MIRADA-   Serious crime rose 4% last year in La Mirada  and is up 32 % from 2014 according to Sheriff's crime statistics.

There were 962 serious crimes reported in 2016 up from 923 the previous year and 724 in 2014.

Serious crimes are defined as homicide, rape, theft, burglary, vehicle thefts, arson, and aggravated assault.  Aggravated assault is an assault that causes or could have caused serious injury.

Deputies made 888 arrests last year in the city, including 241 for felony charges.

Despite two years of increasing crime, La Mirada still had the lowest per capita crime rate of cities in the area.
