Warm-up to continue through midweek
A high pressure system that is pumping blistering heat in most of the southwestern United States will continue it's grip on the region through Wednesday according to the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.
The La Mirada area has been more fortunate than most of the region, with daytime highs peaking in the low 90's Friday and Saturday.
A subtle change occurring Monday will make the heat a bit more uncomfortable and sticky as a monsoonal flow begins pumping moisture into the area from northern Mexico.
Daytime highs in the upper 80's will be the rule until a cooler air mass from the northwest brings relief Thursday.
Participants at today's annual Independence Celebration at La Mirada Regional Park should expect sunny skies with a slight breeze and a temperature near 86 degrees at it's 4 p.m. kickoff.
Picnickers will find food and information booths sponsored by community groups as well as live entertainment stage feauturing local music groups.
The event concludes with a fireworks show that can be seen from most parts of the town.
