Prep Baseball: Matadores squeek out a 2- 1 win against Bellflower

LA MIRADA- In the second of back-to-back games La Mirada defeated league rival Bellflower 2-1 Friday at home.

La Mirada (4-10 overall, 3-1 league), played stingy after a 6-4 loss Wednesday at Bellflower' home field.

Sophomore pitcher Cody Kruip entered the game midway in the 4th in relief of starter Ali Anthony, and added the finishing touches on a smart defensive against a Buccaneer team (9-3, 3-1) that is averaging 8.1 runs per game.

Senior JP Montalvo put the Matadores' ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th after the ball squirted loose as players collided near 1st base allowing Montalvo to score the game winner from 3rd base.

Kruip allowed no runs on two hits in just over three innings complimenting the effort by starter Anthony who allowed just one run and two hits.

The win allowed La Mirada to climb back into a 1st place tie with Bellflower in the Suburban League.
