Cold air mass over Southland will stick around til' midweek
LA MIRADA- A quick moving winter storm front that moved into the La Mirada area Friday night dropped well over an inch of rain before the sun rose Saturday morning.
Most of the rainfall occurred during a four-hour period beginning about 11:00 p.m. Friday night, tapering off to periods of light showers and drizzle by 3:00 a.m.
The final storm tally was 1.46'' in La Mirada, pushing the seasonal total close to 18 inches, well above the normal mark for this date.
Trailing the path of the storm is a huge cold air mass, which NWS forecasters at the Oxnard office are calling one of the coldest air masses to pay a visit to the area in nearly a decade.
The frigid air mass that sent the overnight low this morning to a frosty 36, has parked itself centered over Ventura County.
Another crisp night is expected tonight that will likely see the mercury drop into the 30's again by early Monday morning.
Normal highs and lows for this date are 69/47 respectively.
This afternoon will continue to be crisp and sunny, and continued sunny clear days Monday and Tuesday though daytime highs will remain close to 10 degrees below normal.
A weak cold front may bring a slight chance of rain Wednesday, followed by a warming trend that will push the thermometer a bit over the norm for early March, the low 70's.
The NWS is predicting a cooler and drier than average month of March, temps and thanks to a rapidly weakening La Nina in the Pacific Ocean off the Central American coast.
