La Mirada Sheriff's crime report for October, 23, 2018

Monday, Oct. 1  

11:30 p.m.  A burglary was reported at a business in the 14300 block of Firestone Blvd.

Tuesday, Oct. 2

4;25 p.m.   A non-injury hit-and-run accident was reported at Imperial Hwy and Valley View Ave.

Wednesday, Oct. 3

1:41 a.m.    A theft from an unlocked vehicle was reported in the 15800 block of Alicante Road.

8:12 a.m.    A vehicle was reported broken into in the 15200 block of Roosseau Lane.

11:40 a.m.  Vandalism was reported at St. Paul of the Cross, 14000 Foster Rd.

5:22 p.m.    A misdemeanor arrest was made in the 13000 block of Sunnybrook Lane for possession of a controlled substance.

Thursday. Oct. 4

1:30 a.m.     A misdemeanor arrest was made in the 14900 block of Firestone Blvd. for possession of a controlled substance.

3:30 p.m.     A misdemeanor arrest was made in the 14700 block of Firestone Blvd for possession of a controlled substance.

10:30 p.m.   A theft of a phone was reported in the 15100 block of Rosecrans Ave after it was left unattended by the victim.

11:10 p.m.    A misdemeanor arrest was made at Elmrock Drive and Watkins Drive for possession of a controlled substance.

Friday, Oct. 5

1:14 p.m.     A misdemeanor arrest in the 16400 block of Phoebe Ave was made for possession of a controlled substance.

7:45 p.m.    An intoxicated individual was taken into protective custody in the 15800 block of Imperial Hwy and allowed to sleep it off. Charges were not warranted as a result of the incident.,

7:56 p.m.    A misdemeanor arrest was made at Rosecrans Ave and Best Ave in Santa Fe Springs by La Mirada deputies for possession of a controlled substance.

10:35 p.m.   An assault was reported in the 14800 block of Telegraph Road.  Deputies state that only minor injuries resulted after a man threw a shopping cart at the victim and fled before their arrival.

Saturday, Oct. 6

7:00 a.m.    A cargo trailer was reported stolen from the 14700 block of Firestone Blvd.

7:30 a.m.    A vehicle was reported stolen from the 16000 block of Ashgrove Drive.

12:30 p.m.   A misdemeanor arrest was made in the 15000 block of Imperial Hwy for possession of a controlled substance.

10:28 p.m.   An arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the 12700 block of Lake Park Way.

Sunday, Oct. 7

4:22 p.m.    Several phones were stolen from a phone store in the 12200 block of La Mirada Blvd.

11:45 p.m.  An arrest for driving impaired was made at Lemon Ave and Penford Drive.

Tuesday, Oct. 9

1:25 a.m.    An arrest was made for driving impaired at Biola Ave and Mansa Drive.

8:05 s.m.     An arrest was made for alleging a felony weapons law violation at Marquardt Ave and Larwin Road.

2:49 p.m.   Deputies issued a summons for possessing an open container of alcohol in the 12700 block of Valley View Ave.

3:35 p.m.    A hit-and-run accident was reported at Imperial Hwy and Biola Ave. There were no reported injuries.

Wednesday, Oct. 10 

1:45 a.m.    A grand theft auto was reported in the 14000 block of Lynmark St.

10:30 a.m.   A vehicle was broken into while parked at La Mirada Regional Park.

Thursday, Oct. 11

1:20 p.m.    A misdemeanor arrest was made at Firestone Blvd and Artesia Blvd for possession of a controlled substance.

5:45 p.m.     A non-injury hit-and-run accident was reported at Imperial Hwy and Telegraph Road.

Friday, Oct. 12

11:00 a.m.    A daytime residential burglary was reported in the 15600 block of Yellowbrook Lane.

6:23 p.m.      A Felony-level vandalism (loss more than $400) was reported in the 14600 block of La Pluma Drive.

Monday, Oct. 15

9:30 p.m.     An arrest occurred at Heflin Drive and Ragan Drive for driving while impaired.

Tuesday, Oct. 16

7:00 p.m.   A misdemeanor arrest for possession of a controlled substance was made in the 14200 block of Firestone Blvd.

Wednesday, Oct. 17

12:30 a.m.    A car break-in was reported in the 12600 block of Heflin Drive.

5:30 p.m.      A business reported being robbed using fear and/or force in the 12800 block of La Mirada Blvd.

Also occurring during the past week were a few noteworthy incidents including a robbery last Wednesday just after 11 a.m.when two masked gunmen entered the T-Mobile store in the12200 block of  La Mirada Blvd leaving with numerous cell phones.

Once on scene, investigative leads directed deputies to an apartment building in South Whittier less than a mile away in the 11500 block of Obert Ave.
   
A small army of deputies quickly contained the area, evacuated the other tenants from the same building and placed La Colima Elementary on lockdown.

A vehicle driven by the suspects was found in a rear carport with the stolen loot still inside.

After the complex was evacuated a Sheriff's copter dropped down low over the building an issued a PA speaker announcement to surrender,to which there was no answer. There was no response.

Several hours later once the Sheriff's SWAT team was able to arrive, plan, and make entry, deputies found the apartment unoccupied.

Detectives have learned the identity of the two suspects and will likely be wearing bracelets soon.

On Thursday, the next afternoon tragedy unfolded for a local family after Roland Sarabia, 61,of La Mirada died from injuries sustained in the 1:10 p.m after the motorcycle collided with another car on Valley View Av south of Rosecrans.

The collision was so violent;Sarabia had been sent flying headfirst into the curb on the other side of the roadway.

Sarabia died of his injuries several hours later after being transported to the trauma center at UCI Medical Center

There were no arrests, and charges were not expected after the cause investigation is complete.
