LA MIRADA A man and woman found shot at a Santa Fe Springs motel are suspects in Saturday's shooting spree that left one man dead and several others injured.
Sheriff's Homicide Bureau are attempting to determine if two person matching the description of the La Mirada shooters found shot inside a stolen vehicle at the Budget Inn at Firestone Blvd and Carmenita Road were involved. Both were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange for treatment of their wounds. Investigators did not release details on who or how the two suspects shot.
It is believed a firearm found inside the vehicle occupied by the suspects could tie the pair to the Saturday afternoon crime spree that ended with a Norwalk man being to death while stopped for a red light signal in La Mirada.
The violent series of events began at about 2 P.M, with a carjacking in Pico Rivera. The same suspects are believed to have began a shooting spree a short time later with two separate incidents just minutes apart in East Whittier, including one that left a man walking near a Starbucks in the 14900 block of Whittier Blvd with a gunshot wound to the leg according to the Whittier Daily News.
Another car-to-car shooting at Imperial Hwy and Valley View Ave left an innocent motorist shaken but uninjured as the suspects brought their afternoon of terror into La Mirada.
Moments later a second victim was hit by the couples gunfire on Imperial Hwy east of La Mirada Blvd near the Del Taco, then the final random shooting a short time later left Jose Sahagun, 44,, of Norwalk, was shot while stopped for a red light at Alicante Road and Santa Gertrudes Ave.
Sahagun was gunned down in his car while while travelling with his family according to the Los Angeles Times. He passed away shortly after arrival at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
The community gathered with family and friends of Sahagun Sunday afternoon at Behringer Park to remember the father of two sons.
Candles left by mourners could be seen along the golf course wall Monday morning near the location the fatal shooting.
Investigators believe the La Mirada and Whittier events were all random and unprovoked,
The carjacked vehicle used in the crime spree was located several hours after the La Mirada shootings abandoned at Amelia Mayberry Park in unincorporated South Whittier.
