Gunman arrested at a Norwalk Taco Bell after firing shots, no reported hits

NORWALK -      A gunman that fired shots at a Norwalk fast-food restaurant early Sunday evening was taken into custody without incident after an attempt to hide in a rooftop crawl space failed to fool deputies into thinking the shooter had fled.  A second suspect was able to flee the scene.

Deputies from Norwalk and La Mirada stations descended ,on the Taco Bell at Rosecrans Ave and Carmenita Rd around 6:10 p.m. after dispatchers began receiving numerous calls of shots being fired at the restaurant.

A quick response by deputies caused one of the suspects to retreat back inside the Taco Bell and was quickly observed attempting to escape out the drive-thru window, and failing that, went to the rooftop where deputies arrested him as he was attempting to hide in a crawl space adjacent to the roof.

Investigators are attempting to identify the second suspect who fled in a white or gray Chrysler 300 before deputies arrived.  The vehicle was later located unoccupied a short time later and it was discovered to have been a stolen car.

Deputies are still on the scene as of 7:10 p.m, processing a large crime scene that includes expended shell casings over a wide area and has resulted in the area being cordoned to motorists and onlookers.

Investigators believe the incident was likely gang related.
