La Mirada crime rate up 29% in early 2017 over previous year

Serious crime in La Mirada continued to increase for the third straight year according to newly released crime statistics for January and February of this year.
There  were 199 serious crimes logged by La Mirada deputies during the two month period, up from the 152 reported in the same period in 2016 and 29% increaase and is up 65& from 2014.

Serious offenses are comprised of homicide, robbery, aggravated assault (serious, or potential serious injury), rape, burglary, theft, auto theft, and arson.

In other areas served by Norwalk Sheriff's Station, the city of Norwalk has a crime rate close to that of La Mirada,  and is 16 percent lower in the county areas of South Whittier and East Whittier.

To the south Cerritos is also experiencing rising crime, which was up 17.2% in early 2017.

On a positive note violent crime began the year down with nine reported incidents this year, down from 14 in early 2016. 

Sharp rises in the number of vehicles reported stolen more than doubled versus a year ago from 18 to 39 and break-ins rising 80% were a big factor in the increase over 2016.
