Deputy patrols enforcing 'Safe and Sane' 4th


LA MIRADA- Extra sheriff's patrols in unmarked patrol vehicles are saturating neighborhoods throughout the city in an annual effort to put a dent in the use of illegal fireworks this afternoon and evening.

The patrols working La Mirada Hamwatch volunteer citizen patrols that utilize roving spotters that radio firework violations to deputies.

Violators risk anywhere from a misdemeanor citation up to a felony charge depending on the degree of the violation.

Shortly after 5 p.m. there a minor dispute broke out between deputies and party-goers in the 14700 block of Sabine Drive after deputies attempeted to cite a violator.

Peace was restored between camera-toting citizens and deputies after the arrival of more deputies and a sheriff's department supervisor.
