Two arrested after pursuit of stolen vehicle ending near the Santa Ana Freeway

SANTA FE SPRINGS- CHP is in pursuit southbound on the 5 Freeway of a stolen delivery truck from Carmenita Rd.

(Update 10:10 p.m.) The pursuit terminated on Firestone Blvd just north of Alondra Blvd in Santa Fe Springs after the suspects lost control of the truck and crashed through a fence on the right shoulder, with the vehicle coming to a stop in the middle of Firestone Blvd

Both suspects in the vehicle fled on foot and were both captured by CHP officers within minutes.

(Update 10:20 p.m.)

The incident began shortly after 9:00 p.m. in Hacienda Heights with a report of a vehcicle theft in progress.

The first deputy responding to the area located the vehicle and after back-up units arrived and an 'air-unit' overhead an attempt to stop the vehicle was made and ignored.

The deputies did not engage a vehcile pursuit after the driver failed to yield.

Having the advantage of a copter overhead, deputies went into a surveillance mode, where deputies will back off and trail from a distance while the observer in the sheriff's copter continues to update ground personel of the location of the stolen vehicle.

CHP units responded to the area after being notified that the vehicle was headed towards the Pomona Freeway.

A short time later CHP attempted a second stop on the freeway and like deputies, they too were ignored.

The CHP having a much more liberal pursuit policy maintained the pursuit with up to six CHP units. An attempt to stop the vehicle on the southbound 605 Freeway with a spike strip failed.

The chase ended just minutes later after crashing through a fence which seperates the freeway from Firestone Blvd near Alondra Blvd.

After a brief foot pursuit both suspects were taken into custody.

There were no injuries.
