Cooler weather begins move into region

Cool down began overnight

A high pressure system that was parked over the region for the past week that brought sweltering heat combined with high humidity finally began to break down late Thursday.

The high yesterday was 91 in La Mirada, well above the average of 86.

The low pressure trough that has predominated most of the summer and has been responsible for the season's unusually cool weather has returned for a few day.

Today should be markedly cooler as an onshore flow begins to build bringing a deepening marine layer that should stick around until Monday according to forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.

By Saturday daytime highs will dip well below normal and there is a chance of drizzle or light showers as the marine layer deepens.

Tuesday a warming trend will return just in time for Labor Day weekend.

Forecast issued Fri. August 27, 3:15 a.m.

Tonight: Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, increasing clouds. South southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph becoming calm. Low 62.
