La Mirada woman dies in collision with big-rig

SANTA FE SPRINGS- A 24 year-old La Mirada woman was killed Tuesday evening in a accident after an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed collided with a big-rig.

Coroners officials identified the deceased woman as Tabatha Crystal Cornejo.

Witnesses told police that Cornejo was driving a 2002 Chevy Tahoe southbound on Carmenita Road from the area of the Santa Ana Freeway towards Alondra Blvd through an industrial area in the southern section of the city at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Approaching Molette Street the SUV operated by Cornejo collided with a big-rig truck making a left turn onto northbound Carmenita Road resulting in the Tahoe becoming trapped under the trailer of the truck.

It took firefighters close to an hour to free Cornejo from the wreckage, however she was pronounced dead at the scene according to a statement by Whittier Police PIO Mike Dekowski.

  1. I know she was someone's daughter, grandaughter, niece, sister and so on. It breaks my heart to see this happen especially when i drive on this road every day. I don't have to know her to feel saddened for her family. My heart goes out to her loved ones.

  2. Who ever keeps writing "quit copying other websites...." please stop. There are some of us who actually know these girls who passed away. And it is insanely inappropriate. My condolences go out to Tabetha and her family.
